FODMAP stands for fermentable oligo-di-monosaccharides and polyols. It is a group of short-chain carbohydrates found in certain foods that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine. These foods can cause digestive symptoms such as bloating, cramping, pain and gas in those who are intolerant. FODMAPs are often removed from the diets of individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to reduce symptoms.
